Fake IRS Phone Calls Target Dutchess County Seniors

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Seniors across Dutchess County are being advised to be extra cautious as an IRS-related phone scam continues to be pervasive, according to a report in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

The IRS scam, where the caller says he or she is from the IRS and explains that if money is not sent to them immediately via the use of wire transfer, money order, Green-Dot cards or other prepaid credit cards then the receiver of the call will go to jail, the Journal reported.
